McLaren Automotive: P1 Launch Film

In collaboration with MarshMallowLaserFeast, I designed, directed and developed the launch video for the McLaren P1.

Using a combination of long exposure photography and motion control we created a three dimensional animated light painting that represents the aerodynamics of the car. Working directly with McLaren we obtained the aerodynamic data of the car and used this as the basis of our concept. Using this data we animated these paths in a 3D application. Each 3D frame of animation was then sliced into 700 depth frames, that were played back in sync with a moving screen and recored as a long exposure photograph, this generated A 3D animated scene within a real environment. We repeated this process for 1000 frames taking approximately 5 days to complete.
